Serving North Richland Hills, TX: HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical

North Richland Hills sits about six miles from our office in Haltom City, and its houses span seventy years: the 1950s streets that grew out of a dairy farm, the 1970s and 1980s neighborhoods that make up most of the city, and newer builds since. Our licensed technicians, plumbers and electricians work across all of it, and you get a price to approve before any work starts. Call us at 817-290-3373 or book online.

A City That Grew One Decade at a Time

North Richland Hills began in 1953 as 268 acres of the Jones dairy farm, around what is now Cummings Drive, with about 500 residents. The city’s own history records how quickly it filled in after that: 8,662 people by 1960, 16,514 by 1970, 30,592 by 1980 and 45,895 by 1990. Today it is the fourth largest city in Tarrant County, with more than 70,000 residents. Six miles from our office, North Richland Hills gets the full range of our work, including air conditioning repair and replacement and furnace and heat pump service. On the plumbing side we cover leak detection and water heater service and drain and sewer line work.

The median home dates to 1986, according to the Census, and 66 percent of homes heat with electricity, against 33 percent with gas. About 63 percent are owner occupied.

Two homes in three are detached single-family houses, and the median owner-occupied home is valued at about $360,700. The rest is a real mix: the Census counts more than 2,500 homes in buildings of five to nine units and about 1,800 in buildings of fifty or more.

North Richland Hills Service Pages

The three services NRH searches for most each have a page written around the city’s houses and its code:

AC repair

A third of NRH homes predate 1980, so the air conditioner is often much newer than the ductwork and the house around it. Our AC repair in North Richland Hills accounts for that, the heat pumps in an electric-heat city, and the permits NRH requires for a replacement.

Plumbing

NRH checked more than 23,000 water service lines and found no lead, but the city still sets strict rules for slab leak repairs. Our plumbers in NRH work to those rules and plan around the clay under the slab and the city’s water.

Electrical

North Richland Hills enforces the 2023 National Electrical Code and requires a permit for any electrical or gas line work. As licensed electricians in North Richland Hills, we handle panels, EV chargers and generators. Outlets, lighting and rewiring round out our electrical services in the city.

North Richland Hills Problems We Solve, and How

Slab plumbing on shrink-swell ground. Much of North Richland Hills sits on clay loams such as Wilson, Navo and Ponder. Of the 16 points we sampled inside city limits, the USDA soil survey flagged 15 for high shrink-swell, and it rates the Sanger, Aubrey and Crosstell soils among them as very limited for houses on concrete slabs. If a floor feels warm in one spot or the bill climbs without a reason, call before anyone starts cutting. We pinpoint the leak electronically and acoustically first.

When the house is older than the system. In a city where a third of the homes predate 1980, the air conditioner is often newer than the house around it. When rooms stay warm after a new unit goes in, the ducts get checked as part of the diagnosis, not just the equipment.

The permit is the owner’s responsibility too. North Richland Hills requires a permit to install or replace a water heater, an HVAC system, a water line or a sewer line, and for any electrical or gas line work, and the city says it is the homeowner’s responsibility to make sure the contractor gets it.

Building Codes and Contractors in NRH

North Richland Hills enforces the 2024 International Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Energy Conservation Codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code, with local amendments in Chapter 98 of the city’s code. Every contractor working in the city must be registered, and a contractor needs a business license approved in the city’s online permit portal before applying for a first permit. Permit applications, plans, fees and inspection requests all go through that portal.

Registration itself costs nothing: the city’s Chapter 98 fee schedule lists contractor registration for all trades at $0. What costs money is a failed inspection, at $39 for the first re-inspection, $75 for the second and $125 for each one after that. Plans and permit applications can be uploaded to the portal 24 hours a day, and the city no longer accepts plans dropped off at City Hall or sent by mail.

Outdoor construction has set hours under Section 98-61(b) of the city code. It is not allowed between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. while Central Standard Time is in effect, or between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. during Daylight Saving Time, and not at all on Sundays, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas. A condenser swap or a sewer line dig in July can start earlier than one in January.

Our Hours and the 24/7 Line

The office runs Monday to Friday, 7 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 8 am to 3 pm. Our emergency line answers 24 hours a day for no cooling in a heat wave, no heat on a freezing night, a burst pipe or an electrical hazard. Call us at 817-290-3373.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the city filled in a decade at a time. The Census counts 22 percent of homes from the 1970s, 24 percent from the 1980s and about 12 percent built since 2010, and the median home dates to 1986. We work on all of them, from the original ductwork to a new heat pump.

The homeowner. North Richland Hills says it is the homeowner’s responsibility to make sure the contractor obtains the proper permits, and it lists water heaters, HVAC systems, water and sewer lines and any electrical or gas line work among the jobs that need one.

No. The Chapter 98 fee schedule lists registration for all trades at $0. Every contractor still has to register, and a business license must be approved in the city’s e-portal before a first permit.

Not between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. in Central Standard Time or between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. in Daylight Saving Time, and not on Sundays or six listed holidays, under Section 98-61(b) of the city code.

Most of it. At 15 of the 16 points we sampled inside the city, the USDA soil survey flags high shrink-swell, which puts strain on slab foundations and the water lines under them. Watch for a warm spot on the floor or a water bill that climbs for no reason.
