AC Repair in Keller, TX

Two technicians opening up a wall-mounted air conditioner

When the air conditioning quits in a Keller home, the cause is usually age. More than half the houses in Keller went up between 1990 and 2009, so a lot of the equipment cooling them has been through two or three decades of North Texas summers. Our licensed technicians find the real cause, give you an upfront price before any work starts, and carry the common parts on the truck so most repairs are done in one visit. Call us at 817-290-3373 or book online. Our same-day AC repair works the same way across the rest of Fort Worth.

What 1990s and 2000s Homes Ask of an AC System

Keller grew fast in a short window. Census figures put 24 percent of its homes in the 1990s and another 29 percent in the 2000s, and the median Keller house was built in 1999. A 1999 house is 27 years old this year. If the original system was never replaced, it is running on refrigerant, coils and electrical parts from that era, and if it was replaced once, that replacement may itself be well into its second decade. AC repair is one part of the Keller HVAC, plumbing & electrical work we do from our Haltom City office.

Equipment of that age tends to fail in familiar ways: a unit that runs all afternoon without pulling the temperature down, a condenser that clicks and never starts, or a coil that ices over on the hottest day of the week. Most Keller homes pair a central air conditioner with a gas furnace (63 percent heat with utility gas, according to the Census), so in most Keller homes the gas furnace, not the outdoor unit, does the heating, and the outdoor unit is there for cooling.

Water by the Air Handler: What Keller's Code Requires

A clogged condensate line is a common cause of water around the indoor unit, and Keller’s code has more to say about condensate than most homeowners expect. The city amends the residential code so that condensate from every cooling coil runs from the drain pan to a sanitary sewer through a trap.

The code also covers the backup. Where an overflow could damage the house, as it can with a unit in the attic, the residential code calls for a second line of defense: an auxiliary drain pan, a separate overflow line, or a water-level switch that shuts the system off before water reaches the ceiling. Keller’s amendments allow the water-level switch options only with the building official’s prior approval.

What that means on a repair call: if water is showing up around the indoor unit or staining a ceiling, we clear the line, check the trap, and look at how the backup protection is set up, because a switch that has tripped the system is doing its job and a pan that is full is telling you the primary line failed.

AC Problems We Fix in Keller

Our trucks are stocked to diagnose and repair most cooling problems on the first visit, including:

  • The system runs but blows warm air, or cannot keep up on hot afternoons
  • Weak airflow from the vents
  • A frozen evaporator coil or a refrigerant leak
  • Water around the indoor unit from a clogged condensate drain line
  • Short cycling, strange noises or a burning smell
  • A unit that will not turn on, or keeps tripping its breaker

We start with a full diagnosis so we fix the cause, not the symptom, then explain what is wrong in plain language and give you a flat price before any work begins.

Getting to an Attic Unit

If your air handler and coil are in the attic, Keller’s code on attic equipment access applies: the opening must be at least 20 inches by 30 inches and large enough to remove the largest appliance, reached by a permanent stair, a pull-down stair rated for at least 300 pounds, or a door from an upper floor. A repair is usually unaffected, but if a coil or air handler has to come out, the access decides how the job is done.

Keller Problems We Solve, and How

Equipment from the same era wearing out together. When a whole subdivision went up in the same few years, its air conditioners were installed in the same few years too. Waiting for the first 100 degree week to find out which part is failing is the expensive way to find out. Gold Star Membership includes priority scheduling, an annual tune-up and 15 percent off repairs, so a weak part can be found in spring instead.

Repair or replace on a 20-year-old system. If the system is under about 10 to 12 years old and the repair is minor, repair usually makes sense. For older units with major or repeated failures, replacement can be the better value. We price both options so you can compare, and we never push a replacement you do not need.

A breaker that keeps tripping. An AC that trips its breaker on hot afternoons can be a failing capacitor or compressor, or a circuit that is already near its limit. Our electricians work alongside our HVAC team, so if the problem is in the panel, the same visit can find it.

Other Work on the Same Keller System

Some repair visits show that a system has reached its end, and replacing a Keller air conditioner starts with a load calculation, not the size printed on the old unit. In most Keller homes the furnace blower moves the cooled air too, so a weak blower found in July is also a Keller heating repair problem. A compressor that trips its breaker every afternoon goes to our electricians in Keller.

Frequently Asked Questions

About 11 miles in a straight line from our Haltom City office to the center of Keller. We book AC repair Monday to Friday 7 to 6 and Saturday 8 to 3, and our emergency line answers 24/7.

It has been a long summer. The NOAA station at Fort Worth Alliance Airport, about 7 miles from Keller, recorded 57 days at or above 100 degrees this year through October 23, against 15 in 2025. Hours of nonstop running are when a weak capacitor, a dirty coil or low refrigerant tends to show up.

Keller houses are large, with a median of 7.8 rooms by the Census count, and the rooms at the end of the longest duct runs feel weak airflow first. A clogged filter, a failing blower or a duct problem can cause it, so our diagnosis covers airflow as well as the outdoor unit.

If it runs on R-22, that refrigerant is no longer made: the EPA ended its production and import in 2020. A leak in a system like that becomes a repair or replace decision, and we price both.

Either can be. A failing capacitor or compressor can trip it, and so can a circuit already near its limit. Our electricians work alongside our HVAC team, so one visit can check both.
