Drain Cleaning and Sewer Line Service in Mansfield

Mansfield’s own water utility is blunt about what clogs a drain. It warns that fats, oils and grease harden on the walls of household pipes and city sewer lines, cutting the flow until the line backs up into a house. Our licensed plumbers clear slow and blocked drains, camera-inspect sewer lines to see what is actually wrong, and give you a flat price before any work begins. Call us at 817-290-3373, day or night. The same equipment and crews handle drain cleaning across Fort Worth.

What Mansfield's Utility Says Not to Pour Down a Drain

The city’s Prevent Plumbing Problems guidance is a good summary of what ends up in a service call:

  • Fats, oils, grease and food solids. Meat fat, butter, sauces, gravy, dairy and cooking oil harden and cling to pipe walls. Scrape them into the trash instead.
  • Medications and sharps. The city says never to flush medication or pour it down a drain.
  • Large amounts of chemicals. A small amount of household cleaner, about a cup, is fine. Large amounts of bleach, degreasers and similar cleaners are not.
  • Paint, pesticides and fertilizer. These should never go down a drain.

Mansfield collects used cooking oil at its Environmental Collection Center, 616 S. Wisteria Street, during the monthly household hazardous waste events: the second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Thursday and Friday before it from 3 to 5 p.m. For old medication, the city suggests mixing it with something unpalatable such as cat litter or used coffee grounds and putting it in the trash, or taking it to a participating pharmacy. Drain work sits alongside heating, cooling and wiring in our Mansfield HVAC, plumbing & electrical service, so one call covers the house.

The city’s companion guidance, “Your Toilet is Not a Trash Can,” covers the bathroom side:

  • Wipes of every kind, including ones labeled flushable. The city says their plastic fibers do not break down quickly and can clog a sewer line.
  • Paper towels, which are made to be absorbent and strong and do not dissolve quickly.
  • Tampons and sanitary napkins, made of cotton and rayon fibers that absorb water instead of breaking apart.
  • Dental floss, hair, cotton swabs and cotton balls, which tangle with everything else in the line.

One Drain or the Whole House

A single slow sink is usually a clog close to the fixture, and a plunger or a basic snaking often clears it. Slow drains throughout the house, gurgling from a toilet when the washer drains, or a sewage smell point to the main line, and that is where a camera earns its keep. Repeat clogs usually mean a deeper problem: grease buildup, roots in the line, or a section that has sagged or cracked. A backup that cannot wait is a job for our 24/7 emergency drain cleaning service.

Outside, the main line is reached through the cleanout: in Mansfield, usually a PVC pipe with a removable cap somewhere near the front of the house, sometimes hidden in a flower bed. The cap keeps rainwater, leaves, grass, rodents and insects out of the sewer line. If yours is missing or cracked, Mansfield Water Utilities replaces it at no charge after you fill out its form, and you do not need to be home.

How We Clear a Drain

  • Snaking clears most everyday clogs in a sink, tub or toilet line.
  • Hydro jetting sends high-pressure water through the line to strip grease, scale and roots off the whole pipe wall, the better choice for main lines and clogs that keep returning.
  • Camera inspection lets us see inside the line to find the cause, whether roots, a collapse or a belly, so we fix the real problem instead of guessing.

A routine snaking costs less than hydro jetting or a main-line clearing. We diagnose the clog and give you a flat price before starting.

Mansfield Problems We Solve, and How

Clay that moves the sewer line

The USDA soil survey flags high shrink-swell at 15 of the 17 points we sampled inside Mansfield. Ground that swells and shrinks can shift a buried line, which is one way a belly or a crack starts. A camera inspection shows it before anyone digs.

Sewer lines laid to Mansfield's rules

Under Mansfield’s amendments, the building sewer runs at least 12 inches below grade, and any open vent through the roof stops at least 6 inches above the roofline. A new foundation’s drain and sewer lines are water tested with a 5 foot head before the city passes the plumbing rough-in.

Underground plastic sewer pipe is bedded in 4 inches of granular fill, with the side fill compacted in 6-inch layers to at least 85 percent standard Proctor density, up to 6 inches over the top of the pipe.

A backup at night

A sewer backup does not wait for office hours. Our emergency line answers around the clock.

Mansfield Water Utilities also lists a sewer backup and an overflowing manhole among its water and sewer emergencies, with a separate number for reports outside business hours.

When a Clog Keeps Coming Back

A drain that clears and then clogs again within weeks is telling you something. Repeat clogs usually mean a deeper issue, such as grease building up along the pipe wall, roots finding a joint, or a section that has sagged or cracked. Snaking the same clog over and over treats the symptom. A camera inspection finds the cause, and hydro jetting scours the whole pipe wall rather than punching a hole through the blockage, so the line stays clear longer.

Some drain calls turn out to belong to a neighboring trade. A water heater pan filling up, or its relief line dripping onto the floor, falls under water heater repair in Mansfield. If the water meter keeps turning with every tap closed, the problem is a supply leak rather than a drain, and our Mansfield plumbers trace it with leak detection equipment before anyone opens a floor. When the camera shows a line that has bellied or cracked rather than clogged, the job moves to sewer line repair and replacement, and a line coated in grease is a candidate for high-pressure hydro jetting.

Yes, at no charge. Mansfield Water Utilities inspects and replaces a missing or damaged cap after you fill out its form, and you do not need to be home.

The city says no. Even wipes labeled flushable contain plastic fibers that do not break down quickly and can clog a sewer line, so they belong in the trash.

About a cup at most, according to the city. Large amounts of bleach, disinfectants and degreasers are hard to remove at the wastewater plant, so take them to the Environmental Collection Center instead.
